The Mzansi Youth Choir was established in July 2003 with the aim of affording talented, underprivileged teenagers and young adults (14-24 years) the opportunity to proficiently perform locally and abroad. The choir consists of 45 choristers from Soweto and other areas in and around Johannesburg.

The word Mzansi means south in isiZulu and is also the township slang word for South Africa. The choir’s repertoire is an exciting assortment of South African music which incorporates elements of traditional music, pop and jazz.

The University of Pretoria Youth Choir was established in January 2001 by Professor Johann van der Sandt and since 2005 conducted by Lhente-Mari Pitout. The choir forms part of the multi-choir model of the University of Pretoria. This wonderful regional multicultural youth choir consist of 84 singers between the ages of 14 and 20 years old form 33 schools in the greater Tshwane area. Founded in 1967 and claims to be the only choir school in Africa, and is most beloved in South Africa and indeed the world – the choir has been touring since 1971 to countries including America, Europe and Japan.
